DIGITAL INTER/SECTION

DIGITAL INTERSECTION (DI/S) aims at diversifying the sources of income and business models for digital arts & culture organisations, while promoting sustainable, ethical and inclusive economic development.

>> CHALLENGES

With both social and sectoral challenges, economic models of digital arts and culture organisations are still precarious and inadequate for three main reasons:

  • the growing scarcity of public funds for the cultural field,

  • a lack of diversification of sources of funding,

  • the relative novelty of the discipline and the blurred scope of its contents, which makes its financing even more complex than “classic” tech or artistic fields.

>> MARKET STUDY & INSIGHTS

Through a survey and a series of interviews with experts, we collected objective data across local and global perspectives, in order to:

  • identify the challenges for economic development,

  • consider a variety of contexts and economic models,

  • find new markets and possible new operational models,

  • build a community of interest and sectoral resilience.

NEXT UP:

Based on our market research, we’re developing and testing a new business model together with our partners Chroniques (France), Chromatic (Canada), Kikk (Belgium), Kontejner (Croatia) and Signal (Czech Republic).

We are creating a toolkit to help digital art organisations do a systemic self-assessment to increase their economic resilience, while inspiring the ecosystem to accelerate new ways of doing business.

The toolkit, based on the expertise of dozens of digital arts organizations and business experts throughout the world, will aid in:

  • business modeling,

  • funding,

  • new forms of monetization,

  • and partnerships.
