MediaTech Hub Conference
The MediaTech Hub Conference is Germany's leading business event for future media technologies with the potential not only to disrupt the entertainment sector from which they emerge, but every sector of the economy.
We are proud to have been part of this project since
the very beginning in 2014, from its earlier incarnation as Changing The Picture Conference, to its new form as #mthcon.
2023
Engaging transformation head-on, the 2023 edition of MTH was committed to addressing key trends and challenges currently faced by the film, TV and streaming industry. International experts and participants gathered at Studio Babelsberg, to share their unique perspectives on the ongoing metamorphosis of the MediaTech industry.
As co-curators, our goal was to embrace the wide range of elements and directions of the transformative process. We focused on providing a program that covers a multitude of angles, locating the respective source of change, listening to affected stakeholders, and identifying potentials. Through differentiated viewpoints, we examined the industry and its supporting system from an audience based view as well as delved into topics such as data usage, AI implementation in the creation process, and financing possibilities.
2022
After two years of restrictions, the 2022 edition took place on-site again, with speakers and participants from all over the world gathering at Studio Babelsberg to exchange ideas about the latest media trends, tech innovations and the digital media society. As curators of the Entertainment Track, THE CATALYSTS focused on the Metaverse, Synthetic Media, Sustainability in Streaming and in Production.
"The MediaTech Hub Conference has never been so diverse - both in terms of the participants and the program. Where else can you discuss green streaming, cybersecurity, virtual production and the Metaverse and then experience a chamber concert?" said Peter Effenberg, Head of Conference.
Besides curating, AC also hosted a live broadcast format titled mthTV.
2021
The 2021 edition is best explained by the curator of the Entertainment Track, AC Coppens, in this short video which condenses two days of conference content
into 5 minutes:

The End of Storytelling?
What is the new reality for narrative design in immersive storytelling? The narrative designer and immersive technologist Stephanie Riggs shared her game-changing theory and personal experiences with our audience for this keynote. Why is it so important to move beyond traditional ideas of storytelling for the future of narrative branding across industries? Attempts to apply traditional and familiar storytelling techniques used in books, theatre, and film to immersive environments frequently result in unengaging results, as these spaces require a deep rethinking of narrative's fundamental building blocks. Combining storytelling theory with practice, Stephanie’s insights resonated with both entertainment and industry professionals from a wide range of different sectors.
Experiencing the Digital Human
Digital Humans are on the rise, populating films, games, VR experiences or commercials. As graphics technology, storytelling, and social media converge to bring these new beings to life, it is worth reflecting on core questions—what are digital humans really, how do they come into the world, who makes them, how, and why? Hermione Flynn shed light on these questions by sharing how the 3D animation and motion capture studio, Mimic Productions, is pioneering the digital human.
The Power of the Niche VOD
Innovation in the streaming space is about far more than winning over mainstream markets. Instead, niche VODs are emerging as pioneering players with unique strategies to capture audiences with special interests. This session will mapped the importance of technology for success among niche VODs - providing highly personalised experiences, top-notch curation and beyond. The panel brought together Andreas Vogel, Managing Director Filmwerte currently launching new platform filmfriend, a VOD-portal for public libraries, as well as Weerada Sucharitkul, Co-Founder of FilmDoo, a VOD-platform that wants to connect people to the world through film and Damian Pellicionne, Co-Founder and CEO of Revry.tv, the first queer global VOD streaming and distribution network.

Strategies for Data-Driven Marketing
Today, data drives the marketing process from end-to-end. Strategic approaches are vital for unlocking the full potential of data for different industry sectors, as well as for finding new ways to interface analytic tools and AI with creative thinking. With inspiring case studies, Hannes Weissensteiner (ARTEFACT) and Björn Bremer (Ogilvy) shared key strategies for translating data into future-forward marketing.
Interactive Storytelling with POV Spark
How can we make sure the future of storytelling is both accessible and diverse? Major US public broadcaster PBS is leading the way, incubating boundary-pushing forms of narrative experience with POV Spark, a new unit for interactive and immersive documentary media projects. With interactive visual podcasts, VR experiences and new projects to leverage the storytelling potential of Instagram, creative rethinking of entertainment technology is key to this future-forward approach to media with a social mission. But this isn't all—international cooperation, editorial integrity, diversity, transparency and accessibility are equally integral to POV Spark's mission. Opeyemi Olukemi spoke about her work as Executive Producer at POV Spark, sharing learnings through inspiring case studies that create a much-needed platform for diverse audiences and creators. .
Voice-First Strategy
Voice-first technology, from voice assistants to smart speakers, is experiencing dramatic growth and adoption with no signs of stopping. While we often think about voice tech in terms of consumer products, early movers across entertainment and other industries are already self-disrupting with the aid of voice. Malte Kosub (Future of Voice) outlined the contours of a voice strategy at a critical moment in the development of this new technology.
